Tips for Seeing Sunrise and Sunset

Sunrise and sunset are some of the most beautiful times of the day in Glacier. Knowing when and where to go will ensure you get the best possible chance of catching those fleeting golden moments — if you’re lucky you might even see a rare glimpse of alpenglow on the mountains.

Best Spot for Sunrise

If you’re an early bird looking to get the worm, and catch those first morning rays, try your luck on the east side of the park. St. Mary is a great place to soak up the sun, and if you’re fond of wildlife be sure to keep an eye out for some of Glacier’s critters that tend to be most active at dawn. Try camping on the east side, and you might just be able to unzip your tent for those prime morning views.

Best Spot for Sunset

If winding down with the sunset is more your speed, the west side of the park offers a gorgeous view. Try finding a pullout on the Going-to-the-Sun Road anywhere between The Loop and Logan Pass.

Try Heading to Logan Pass

If you’re up for the drive, the Logan Pass Visitor Center can be a great spot to watch the light illuminate the mountains for both sunrise and sunset, and is one of the best spots for seeing alpenglow.

Plan Ahead
