The Appekunny Falls Trail in the popular Many Glacier Valley leads to an impressive view of the falls. The trail is becoming increasingly difficult to traverse for visitors and park staff due to lack of maintenance, increased visitor use and erosion. Currently, visitors will hike along the creek to get better views of both the waterfall and the spectacular Many Glacier Valley below.
As a result, this project will allow better viewing and access while protecting the fragile ecosystem.
A viewing platform will be constructed at the creek to help reduce damage to the surrounding area. Additionally, over 2,000 feet of difficult tread surface will be reconstructed to ensure a smoother surface and decrease step size where possible. Log and rock checks will be rehabilitated to encourage hikers to stay on the improved trail thereby more effectively protecting adjacent natural resources.
