Providing New Ways for Families to Experience the Park

This project is the next phase of family programming in Apgar Village that was funded during 2015, directly engaging 10,000 youth and their families during the summer. Two teacher-ranger-teachers will be hired to provide daily programming for families at the Apgar Nature Center and surrounding area. The positions provide support and guidance to a cadre of volunteers who staff the programs. Following the improvements implemented at the cabin this year, the building will undergo a second series of operational changes and enhancements for the junior ranger program, a nationwide program designed to engage youth in the parks and family activities. A junior ranger touch table and awards station will be expanded and staffed at the Apgar Visitor Center Plaza to improve the junior ranger awards process and reach diverse youth audiences.
